New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK

I have rather quickly got really frustrated with Plex and the DVR function, so glad I didn’t go for lifetime pass which I was tempted to do!

Am currently using Emby full time and the listings are so much better. This is THE key feature for me so I shall stick with Emby - accurate listings - particularly New, Repeat, Live, flags.

This is now a typical scene in my scheduled recordings since the new Guide update .

Only new HD episodes should record. I have no clue why there are so many planned here.

A change went live this morning (UK/Europe time) that would address issues with not having the right regional BBC / ITV / Channel 4 channels by allowing the selection of the Freeview-National United Kingdom OTA Broadcast lineup and manually mapping the relevant BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 channels from the drop down.

This is a temporary fix to allow for any regional OTA lineups that do not have the right regional channels. The channels will be presented with a channel number followed by -n where n is a sequence number.

Please note that this does not resolve issues with channel 8 for London Live or 102 for BBC 2 HD outside Northern Ireland

My wife is getting quite annoyed. She is wanting the ‘Tour de France Highlights’ to record, but for some reason it is not recording.

As you can see from the screenshots, it is clearly set to record and appears in the guide, but Plex doesn’t show it in the agenda and says ‘No upcoming Airings’!!! I even set it up for ‘New and Repeat Airings’ when I set it up just to be sure, but still no go. What is going on with the DVR functionality at the moment?

Just done a full Guide refresh and it now says it’s going to record. Fingers crossed for no grumpy wife!!!

May have been because of the date 30/06/19 in the guide previously???

The cricket highlights on channel 4 this evening were showing in the guide as starting at 11.05 pm which is the time it finished! The channels are all over the place and I’m pretty fed up. The sky at night shows no upcoming airings which I know isn’t true (scheduled for Sunday).

I don’t like to think how much time I’ve spent mucking around with plex dvr over the years trying to get it to do pretty fundamental things, such as record my show in HD, but it was gradually improving and this feels like a big step backwards.

Top Gear was being weird, I set it to new and repeat and just tried to record the specific episode and it wouldn’t show up in scheduled recordings. I tried again this morning and noticed the episode info had updated from episode 4 to episode 5 and it will now show up as a set recording.

Hardly any of my scheduled recordings DVR show up now, I’ve had to delete them all and set them again as the guide data seems to be different. Catch 22 for example last night wouldn’t find any listings to record, so I deleted it and set it to record again and it showed up with a different image / show data.

The guide is also just plain wrong, The Last Leg for example should be on Channel 4 (104 Freeview) tonight at 10pm, Plex guide data shows it as being ICC cricket highlights and the shows after are also wrong.

Whoever is providing this EPG data is doing a really bad job.

Agreed, state of this… Even the Freeview website is showing the wrong times. No wonder the guide doesn’t work.

Anyone know of a EPG provider in the UK. Don’t mind paying for it as I’m not paying for this crap any more.

Thanks!

I’m using the Freesat setup and I also have issue with new episodes not being recognised as new (Killing Eve on BBC One, for example); I also noticed that single episode TV programmes are recorded as films, for example, Mad Cow Disease: The Great British Beef Scandal which was broadcast yesterday.

Plex, please revert back to Gracenote for the next couple of months for the EPG, and do a lot of internal testing before you switch back to Powered by Plex, which does not work at the moment, and needs a lot of testing before it may work as well as Gracenote :sob:

I have temporarily (I hope) got around the issue with the NEW issue by setting the programs to record ‘New and Repeat Airings’ and then limiting to channel.

This stops old recordings from recording. For example, only new episodes of Top Gear are aired (at the moment) on BBC2. I assume this will be the same for Killing Eve. I really do hope they sort this out soon.

Yep I saw the same confusing behaviour too - listed in the guide as it going to record but then nothing in upcoming recordings. From a UI perspective this is difficult to follow. In one example it seems to be that an entire HD channel didn’t have any the content flagged as being HD (all down as SD), which meant the ‘HD only’ flag was blocking recording.

There doesn’t seem to be ‘New’ tags for anything I record on BBC2, CH4 or CH5.

Top Gear point blank refused to record last week, I guess maybe it’s too Northern now…

This new guide is so far for me a disaster
First I updated and never read whats new so did not know what was wrong at first
Reset all the tuners and took a while to get an epg that kinda worked
Sill unable to record any show that has a break for a news update plex only records the first part !
Various other issues as listed by others - missed recordings and half recordings and missing program data - I manually refresh guide every day
As has been said previously Gracenote was not brilliant but better than this
I do not want to be an Alpha tester for this new EPG I just want it to work

I also noticed that some scheduled recordings show as “No upcoming airings”, e.g.:

And yet, Live TV & DVR shows the next programmes:

Ha, I wonder if anyone in the US can understand a word Freddy and Paddy say

I deleted the DVR and started again, now the listings for my freeview region does show BBC2HD rather than NI.

Still having issues though:

  • Programs not showing as new so have to record all
  • Some programs (mainly documentaries) will only record to a movie library.
  • Lack of detailed info in the guide, really poor program / episode information.

I worry that the above are all caused by using a cheaper EPG source and won’t be resolved. The bog standard OTA guide provides far more info on my TV.

Just to say this is just the same. A lot, probably a third, of metadata is missing. The latest update makes things even worse as it no longer provides All shows or All films, you have to go through the depleted schedule day by day. Can we please return to what worked.

Had further issues with the ‘Tour de France Highlights’ recordings for my wife. As I had ‘Prefer HD’ selected, it decided to record the ITV HD repeat version in the early hours of the morning.

However, for this airing, every single episodes meta data was out by a day e.g. Stage 19 was actually Stage 18 etc. Not sure why I was seeing this behaviour. I am pretty sure when I look at the synopsis within the guide for the airing in the early hours, the information is correct. Maybe a date issue? e.g. As it’s aired 00:30 in the mornings, it’s taking the synopsis for that day’s highlights which is the next stage that hasn’t even happened yet???

As you can see from the screenshot it has a date of the 30th for the episode data when the stage was on the 29th.
