New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK

By “support” I mean there is still no MacOS player, like PMP or Plex Home Theatre. Yes, I could use Kodi, but that’s letting Emby off the hook. No Mac player = no custom from me.

Is this farce ever going to end?!

I very much doubt it, the “new” provider data requires constant management. You can say what you like about Sky, but at least their guide data works 99% of the time and handles last minute changes.

Agreed.

@elan - 7 months on, are you going to comment?

Ah I see; I was using the emby player on Apple TV so I didn’t realise that there was no macOS player

Happy holidays to you too, @chenks

I do care, but unfortunately this isn’t something which can be magically fixed overnight. We have people working on the parts we can control, but if our provider doesn’t give us good data, we have to work through them (with reasonable expectations around what they can do and how long it will take).

Great to have a reply from yourself on this thread - thank you @elan. You’ll have seen from the posts on here how many problems there have been to date and trust this poor level of data quality is being raised with your supplier as a serious concern rather than just individual corrections.

More generally though you will also have seen a lot of other posts on here from users frustrated by issues that have gone resolved for many version whilst new features have been pushed out. Perhaps a New Year resolution for Plex could be to try and focus more on fixing some of these existing bugs before releasing further new features? I appreciate working on new things is always more exciting but from a user perspective having bugs that remain unfixed gets quite frustrating!

For example:

Thanks

Thanks for replying, @elan.

We are not talking about overnight - we’re talking over 6 months during which time Plex as a DVR has been impossible due to reliability over EPG data…

My major concern in all of this is that the same problems reoccur and so I do not see an end to it. Do you have a drop-dead date after which you’ll pull the plug on them and go back to the old one or use another etc etc?

@elan - I appreciate you participating but I would expect more from you as CTO than simply saying “this isn’t something which can be magically fixed overnight” and “if our provider doesn’t give us good data”.

Have a look at the stats of this thread:

This should trigger alarm bells and I would hope that you have a plan to get this resolved very soon. Would be nice if you could share this plan with us.

that’s just this thread - there are many others…

Thanks @JCHH, for example, the thread New EPG and release has these stats:

New series of Grantchester starting this Friday should be S5E01. Only showing date at the moment 10/01/20. S5E02 also showing 17/01/20.

(slightly off topic) but on re-reading my comments I feel they came across a bit aggressive. They weren’t support to!

(back on topic) I do hope Plex (as a company) are re-evaluating their PVR solution and we’ll see something magical in 2020.

no worries at all @page3 and let me join you in hoping that Plex will fix their basic DVR functionality once and for all, which means

  • EPG fully and reliably working
  • Live TV working
  • full de-interlacing support for enhanced video player in live TV

fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

… and a traditional DVR grid view for the EPG across all clients.

This feature rolled out 18 months ago, and is one of the reasons I purchased Plex 12 months ago.

However, I’m still waiting for it to appear on my Xbox One and having now upgraded to a 2019 Samsung TV last month, I’m disappointed it isn’t supported there either :frowning:

We are working on designing a solution to overcome this issue

I overcame the issue with “24 Hours in Police Custody” that I mentioned earlier by simply making sure I watched the first part and deleted it before the second part aired.

Isn’t Plex DVR such a joy to use!

And the blasé attitude of the co-founder posted above just says it all really…

The changes for UK lineups for the freeview channel movements listed here https://www.freeview.co.uk/7-jan-2020-channel-changes-freeview and expanded in more detail here https://www.rxtvlog.com/p/freeview-updates.html are not in place yet

Manual re-mapping of channels is needed after the DVR Scan of channels for changes

Thanks for the heads-up! :+1:

So, whilst we can manually select the channels for those that exist but have simply moved, can you let us know:

  1. When will Plex catch-up (as we will then need to reselect)?
    Screenshot 2020-01-08 at 11.37.22
  2. When will Plex add the new feeds (so we can take advantage of them)?
    Screenshot 2020-01-08 at 11.37.31
    Screenshot 2020-01-08 at 11.40.22

I imagine that changed channels will be updated faster than creating the new ones?

cheers.

This would be a separate task. I can see some mention of changes here https://www.rxtvlog.com/2020/01/paramount-uks-unexpected-channel.html

Is this what you are referring to?
Do you have any further details?
The January 2020 pdf gives different channel numbers

I would expect the changes and new +1 channels updates to be done at the same time. And hopefully the +1 channels will use the same data feed and so data would be available immediately when the channels show up in the lineups.

I will post here when the changes are in place
