New Server setup Synology DS423+ (already have existing server on PC to be decomissioned)

Wasn’t sure how to word the title or try to search out answers.

I have an existing install on a very old PC and SAN. It was time for something new, went with a DS423+. I am migrating all my files over to the Synology drive now and making sure the files are all named correctly and folder structures are proper.

I would like to then setup a brand new server on the Synology, but when I installed it, it made me use a claim token and just brought up my existing server. Is it not possible to create a brand new install so I can make sure everything is up and running properly before shutting down the old system?

As this is also brand new…anything else I should do/try to optimize this new server?

See these two documents:

If you wish to bring over your database, etc from the PC, see FAQ 26 - Migrate from another OS → DSM 7.

When using the claim token, did you see the “successfully claimed by …” message, to indicate the process was successful?

Is the new server displayed in your list of Authorized Devices?

Using a private/incognito browser window, connect directly to the IP address of the NAS.

For example, if the IP address is 10.1.2.3, use http://10.1.2.3:32400/web.

  • Use http.
  • Don’t forget /web.
  • For the initial login, do not use the “open” button in Package Center, Synology Quick Connect, a FQDN, etc.
  • The private browser window is to bypass any plug-ins that might get in the way.

If the claiming process was successful, you should be able to login and access server settings.

I tried an initial install of a new setup on the Synology. When i went to login, it asked me to “claim” the server. Which was succesful. However when I went to log in, it took me to my existing server and not to the new one that I’m trying to create & test.

Is it because my server & plex pass are tied to my existing login?

I don’t want to move any of the old information from the old server onto the new one, I’d like it to be a completely fresh install, as I think things might have corrupted after years of use. also I’ve moved all the files/folders into new directories and I’m re-tagging everything according to the new plex standards.

In the left panel of Plex/web, you should still have seen both servers.
I wonder if it really claimed.

If I can suggest having the Syno package itself reclaim it for you ?
