No user profile or actor images displaying, but only on the Fire Stick

Server Version#: 1.24.4.5081 / 1.25.0.5246
Player Version#: 8.26.2 (Fire Stick 4K)

With the latest Plex cleint versions I’m not getting the user profile pictures:

There’s no actual picture set for the other user here, but I’m not getting the generic “first letter of the name” either. The image is also missing from the top of the sidebar once you log in.

Also the pre-play screens for programs are not showing the images on the actors’ row anymore.

But they still work on other clients. Even other Android clients, just not the Fire Stick.

So far I have tried:

  • Rebooting the Fire Stick and the Plex server.

  • Downgrading the server version (the issue started around the time I upgraded mine and there were a couple hiccups on the upgrade so I thought it was related. It was not, and happens with both server versions listed above).

  • Signing out and back in on the app.

  • Reinstalling the app to clear all data/settings on it.

  • Fully Refreshed the metedata on a library – this didn’t fix the issue but it did make the server realize the Sidney Poitier in In the Heat of the Night and Sidney Poitier in Sneakers were in fact the same person.

I just now uninstalled and sideloaded 8.25.1 and everything is back again. Not sure if it was an issue in every version of 8.26, they were kinda rapid-fire released so I don’t think I even got to use them all.

I’ve seen this reported multiple times over the last few days - strange that there’s been no official response on it yet - I’m affected by it as well for the record…

Same here and I observed on v8.26 on FireTV. There has been similar reports earlier too:

I have the same problem with the fire stick. It’s weird though, I have v8.26 on my Android phone and the actor images DO show. Although nothing happens when you click on an image like it does with the xBox version and the web client version for that matter.

The trouble is, there are so many inconsistencies across the various Plex platforms. It’s like Plex has various teams scattered across the world, each one working on a specific platform, but none of the teams communicate with each other. You get a great feature on one platform and no sign of it on another platform.

I love Plex but this inter-platform inconsistency issue is a real killer.

Android doesn’t support it yet. However, there has been feature request for this which is tracked here: Make directors' and actors' names clickable

Hopefully this no image issue catches someone eye as don’t want to downgrade app outside of Store.

I have the same problem, I would downgrade to the previous version of Plex but I haven’t been able to find it online for the firestick.

They’re all linked right on the announcements thread here.

Since you’re Plex-Pass subscribed, you can download APKs officially from Plex for Android thread. As nx6 suggested, v8.25.1 is working so give that a try.

I will be staying few days on latest one and see if an update is pushed which fixes the issue.

Thanks for the replies, I downgraded to v8.25.1 and all is good again. I’ll have to make sure I don’t update until they get it fixed.

Same issue here on FireTV stick 4K.

Maybe @sixones can help?

I was having a similar but different issue on my Android TV as well (HiSense U6G). I would be browsing a library and suddenly poster images would stop loading as I was scrolling down. I could still select those items but I was getting no background and only a couple actor images on the pre-play screen. It was like the client had run out of memory and could only display images it had cached before that point.

I was going to post a separate thread for it but I didn’t take any pictures before I tried the same fix (sideloading 8.25.1). As with the Fire Stick, the issues are gone when going back to the earlier client.

So far, only my Shield Pro seems to able to use the current 8.26.2 client without issue.

Same issue here, would be nice to have a fix :pray:t2:

Any update please Plex support?

Yeah, it would be great if this gets fixed and acknowledged that it’s in the works. Not having profile pictures and actors photos isn’t ideal.

Same here, as described on the thread for blurry image.

This also started happening to me and is making my FireTV and Plex unusable…

I have 2 FireTV’s with Plex installed. On one FireTV things have worked fine though I’m encountering a new error where when I start TV the screen resolution is set so high it’s hard to see anything. Unplug and reboot TV seems to fix that but doesn’t seem to be a Plex specific issue.

On my other FireTV, about a month ago I started experiencing same issues noted above: movie posters wouldn’t show, actor/actress images wouldn’t show, etc. To make matters worse, every time I tried to exit out of Plex to FireTV home, when I pressed down on the remote, it would go back to Plex Home Screen from FireTV Home Screen. So this prevented me from even force stopping the Plex app to restart it.

The only thing I’ve been able to do is pull the plug from the TV, wait 30 seconds, and plug back in. FireTV will restart and then Plex will run fine for a few hours before all the issues start again. I don’t think it’s a memory issue as my FireTV has 2GB available. I really hope Plex fixes this issue soon because it’s gotten ridiculous…

I have the exact same issue as well. All my user IDs are blurred out, and for some reason, the cast members on any movie is gone (replaced with initials), but it’s ONLY on the Fire TV version of Plex. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled and nothing changes it. I have at least 1GB of space on the Fire Stick, so space shouldn’t be an issue). I’ve also had some random restarts (it automatically going back to the Plex logo) whenever I try playing certain movies, so my temporary fix was to use the AppleTV version. Trying it again with the same movie afterwards works.

Definitely seems to be centered on the FireTV version. I hope support fixes this soon.

Can’t believe this still isn’t fixed!!! Seems worth of doing a quick release just to address this.

Yep, the same on regular Android TV and a new Google TV since version 8.25. Profile avatars are blurred out and no actor images. Come on Plex!
