If you look at your server, Are all the library sections and files there as they should be?
Yep haven’t noticed anything missing or any issues accessing anything
Let’s take the big step.
This will be a double-check of your data and confirm we can simply delete everything in the Plex shared folder.
(I want to be 100% certain before we do)
- Uninstall PLEX with KEEP option (important)
- Go here
-
Download the correct package for your Synology
-
Install it.
-
It might sit there a couple minutes – DO NOT worry.
-
When it is done,
a. Verify you have aPlexMediaServershared folder
b. Verify your server is still there and fully intact. -
Report back please.
Okay and to confirm, when you say DSM, you’re actually talking about Plex correct?

yes! Uninstall Plex w/ KEEP option.

Sign in as a user with Administrator privilege
Control Panel - Shared Folders
you will see a “PlexMediaServer” shared folder.
Now you can make backups using HyperBackup or other Synology tools.
If everything works, you can now remove the contents of the Plex shared folder.
The “PlexMediaServer” shared folder is the active server.
I am signed in with administrator privilege, should I be seeing something different? I don’t see a PlexMediaServer shared folder
Did you install my “Packaging 2.0” package ?
If you installed from Plex.tv/downloads Then all is good.
( I am about to release the Official builds here in the forum. I am testing it now )
Yeah i installed from plex.tv/downloads
Good. then all is perfect.
You can remove the Plex shared folder if there is nothing of value in it.
Even though I can’t see the other shared folder? Won’t that get rid of all of my metadata?
Your metadata is held in an internal spot (the default DSM 7 location).
If you would like to be able to see it, you can switch to using my new software now.
The choice is entirely yours.
In a few days, it will be public to everyone and become the default.
Just getting twitchy about delete something that is 16 gb but if it’s alright I’ll do it.
You can let it sit there for now. There’s no harm, is there?
I mean you told me to delete it, but I’ll hold off then I guess for now.
if you’re nervous, let it wait.
There is ZERO harm.
It’s more important you are comfortable than a mere 16 GB of junk.
When you next upgrade PMS, it will be clear you can delete it. That’s OK with me.
Sounds good then, thank you!
If you look in my Preview thread,
you will see I just posted the links to PMS 1.24.2.4955 (Alpha). It’s looking pretty good.
My packaging is included and working perfectly.
It looks good, unless PMS breaks, to upgrade to 1.24.2 when it’s pushed to Beta.
Hi, I have been looking all over but can’t seem to find anything on this. I am using DSM7 with the public release of plex. I am looking for the Task Scheduler script to just make regular backs up my server. Could you help.
