Plex Media Server - Synology DSM 7 Preview - Issues ( Archive )

So my app is showing the old server I stopped the app cleared the cache and cleared the storage. When I signed back in I see this.

Which is my old server still not my new one and one that is being shared with me. This is weird because it seems to work on my phone 50% of the time.

Edit: this is nuts. I uninstalled my app reinstalled it and I saw the correct server listed in the server list. Clicked it and hit continue and it loaded me into the old one.

go look at the Preferences.xml

Is the Friendly Name assigned in there ?

I see “Enabler” and “Alex”

Should I see that many files in this folder?

I do not see Friendly Name as an option in the Preferences.xml file. I see a lot of other info in there that seems to fit my server preferences but not the name.

not cool.

there should be ONE.

  1. stop Plex
  2. ssh into it
  3. sudo bash
  4. Get into that directory
  5. Check ownership and directory permisions (755). files should be 644.

Hey Chuck Thanks for the great instructions - I thought I was on track and good to go until I installed. (DS918+, dsm 7) -

Downloaded the 64 bit intel installer and it never finishes the install - just spins and spins…

tried redownloading…and everything else I could do…any ideas

Thanks @trumpy81 - good to know that I am looking in the wrong place here.

My router does support DHCP reservation, and I have reserved my Synology NAS an IP address. My port forward is setup with that IP address.

I figured out how to create a new thread so we can continue our conversation THERE if you want.

@invisible

It will never HANG.

It will run until it’s done. For those with HUGE libraries – it might take days.

3 minutes per 1000 items indexed is the typical amount of time required.

Items indexed = Movies + episodes + songs + photos

Plex/Migration.log will show you the progress.

If you interrupt it while it’s moving the data, you’ll corrupt the whole thing.

thanks…let it run overnight and that seemed to fix the install…now I need to figure out why it won’t see my media…(and yup the permissions on that shared folder are (Plex media server/ read write)

I’ve seen sometimes, dependent on how the media got loaded, permissions are munged up down deeper.

FileStation → right click the shared folder → Properties → Permissions.

Now set what you want, including System Internal User PlexMediaServer

Check “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”

(this the the BIG HAMMER technique but it works)

I might have missed that somewhere else, but how come the “Plex Share” is back with version 1.24.2.4973 of the server on my Synology NAS (DS420+), now being called “PlexMediaServer”?

What’s the story behind and are there any specific instructions to be followed?

I can confirm that the installation of this version took rather long, so a bit of patience is needed, for sure … :upside_down_face: … so far working alright, yet, the sonic analysis takes extremely looong … can’t wait to harvest the fruit of the analysis …

You missed a lot.

  1. It’s not has it was
  2. lots of restrictions

Hehe… -efw is also a classic .

I uninstalled the latest one & tried .4931 on a fresh install - same situation. Updating in place didn’t change it either.

Let me know if you’d want me to do anything about it - like testing another build.
(My install is pretty much ok with the manual DB copying. I do get some wonky file detection - missing files - but that’s probably unrelated).

This isn’t :rocket: science.

Process is:

If nothing in PlexMediaServer directory
   if nothing in @apphome directory
If valid Plex installation in the Plex shared folder
         Migrate Plex -> PlexMediaserver
      endif
   else
      Move @apphome -> PlexMediaServer
   endif
endif

Notice, it will not overwrite anything existing.
What do you actually have please?

  1. Plex shared folder which never migrated?
    -and-
  2. Nothing in PlexMediaServer

??

what is your capitalization? Plex? plex? PLEX?

So I’ve got a Plex shared folder as well as a Plex Media Server shared folder on the same volume on my Synology NAS DS918+ (DSM 7). There should only be a Plex Media Server folder at this point right?

Edit: this is after upgrading to DSM 7 and installing the compatible PMS

Careful please.

  1. The old and now obsolete, Plex, shared folder. It’s free for you to use, or delete, as you wish once the data is migrated.

  2. The new, PlexMediaServer, shared folder created by DSM. This is where the metadata resides.

If you want to continue to use the Plex share for your media, You’re free to do so.

Did you have an opportunity to read my Release notes (linked above) ?

Gotcha, I followed your guide to install the new PMS version on DSM 7 (very helpful!) but I must have missed your release notes. I will check those out, I apologize if my question was already answered there.

I’m still having issues getting a direct connection to Plex when trying to access remotely even though in the Plex settings it says it should be Fully accessible. Have you seen or heard of this problem with DSM 7? It was working fine on DSM 6… I have another THREAD if you have any thoughts on that.

There are issues with DSM 7 but, when it comes to Remote Access, the issues I’ve seen are almost exclusively confined to firewalls and UPnP / NAT-PMP port mapping failures in the modem/router. (I have a pfsense and have several servers fully accessible )

Having read your other post, first thought – Firewall (open 32400/tcp up)

Firewall has not been enabled on my NAS, but I will enable it and open that port. I’ll try anything at this point haha
