Plex Media Server - Synology DSM 7 Preview - Issues ( Archive )

You have some major corruption in the file system or your DSM 7 itself is badly badly damaged.

ALL packages are installed in /var/packages.

NO software is installed directly on the /volume1 root like that.

My best advice to you at this point.

  1. Control Panel - Backup and Restore – Backup the DSM 7 configuration
  2. Read this article (Synology)
  3. Reinstall DSM
  4. Stay out of the shell after that.

Ok, replied in PM…Regarding the update issue, any ideas ?

I take a risk, remove the PlexMediaServer folder from /volume1/
And do another Plex install, and this time it works propertly

Thank you for your reply.
Yes I have seen the instructions.
Infact I am able to run the previous library (inside the PLEX shared folder)
I am not able to work with new libraries which I want to install on folder OUT of the shared PLEX. I cannot run with this library even if I give the custom authority to the other shared folder.
My problem is that I want to run with libraries inside PLEX folder and outside Plex folder
And I am able only with the INSIDE ones. But I give the same rights to the user PlexMediaServer

In DSM 7, we no longer use the Plex shared folder.

What do you have installed right now?

@dusanzk

I would like you to please look in the PlexMediaServer/AppData.

Do you see Plex Media Server ?

I do, I have Plex Media Server within the AppData folder, as well as all the other folders that are usually there, Cache, Codecs etc.

This is telling me that the data did all move – as expected.

  1. Open FileStation

  2. Navigate: PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server

  3. Open Preferences.xml in the Synology Text Editor

  4. Does it contain your username, email, and PlexOnlineToken ?

@ChuckPa

My PlexOnlineToken is missing ? from preferences.xml

I have installed on the PLEX shared folder, and they DO works.
But when I want to use libraries OUTSIDE plus-shared-folder, the do not work, even if I give the same custom rights to the user PLEXMEDIASERVER

Just wanna share my experience, ChuckPa saved the day for me. Give this man a raise. Thank you so much.

Thank you for explaining that.

Media inside the PlexMediaServer shared folder are always a problem.

To fix what you have … using your EXISTING media folders.

  1. Control Panel

  2. Shared Folders

  3. EDIT the shared folder containing your media

  4. Permissions tab

  5. Change the dropdown from “Local User” to “System Internal User”

  6. Give “PlexMediaServer” permission to read.

  7. If you already have this at the top level but not working for what is in the shared folder, please let me know. We fix the sub-folders in File Station.

@Mick_83

  1. Uninstall the package - Default KEEP option

  2. Install the same package again

  3. Use the “Plex Claim Token” option

  4. Click “Get Plex Claim Token”

  5. Copy from your browser window

  6. Paste into the window

  7. Complete installation.

  8. It will take a few seconds longer but will confirm for you that it’s claimed to your Plex username.

All should be normal again.

@nikkormat

This is post 17 of that thread. it shows how to fix permissions for PlexMediaServer in other shares

ChuckPa
escuse me, but after four hours, just now, while we were talking about it, my PLEX was able to read the files. Sure it needs some time, because the folder were so big.
Sorry for misunderstanding.
Now the system works
Thank you very much !!

it has been working all this time and just now they start to appear ?

For four hours the system said “empty directory”
Now they appear
Probably a lot of time to index the library

“Empty directory” is normal with the new Plex/Web player and PMS.

It does not make the library visible until it’s done.

You can see it scanning the media in the activity button (upper right)

Not fond of it myself either.

Just installed the update. It gave an error but i accidentally didnt screenshot it and forgot what it said. Anyway, it seems to load plex up fine and recognizes my files in the Plex share folder that I have. I have 2 subfolders Movies and TV. Do I take my media from the original Plex share folder and move them into:
/PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Media
?
If so, do i make my Movie and TV subfolders there?

Then im confused. If the plex folder is no longer used, then where do you put the media files?

What messages are you referring to?
