I see that you posted but cannot find the post here in-thread.
I will respond to what I have in email notification.
The username “Plex” is not used anymore. The new username is “PlexMediaServer”. This is how it must be on DSM 7 (Synology forced changed)
User “PlexMediaServer” is a “System Internal User” not a regular user. Please refer to the User Class selector in the upper left corner.
If your goal at this point is to perform a full restart, erasing everything:
a. Delete user Plex
b. Delete the Plex share (at minimum, delete “Library”) . Media in the Plex share is fine. We don’t care about it anymore.
c. Install the DSM 7 package but do not start.
d. Uninstall the DSM 7 package and “Erase All” – removes all trace of DSM 7 PMS.
Before doing this, I strongly recommend reading the migration procedure.
It’s not difficult but IS extremely detailed. Every step must be performed as written. When done this way, which the installer will also prompt you along the way if it finds a discrepancy, DSM 6 installations do successfully migrate to DSM 7.
The Migration procedure is the second post in the “DSM 7 Forum Preview” thread.
Hi,
Noticed a couple things:
Connection issues between Plex web and server. Many times it times out and you have to reload. Usually a refresh solves the issue. But very slow still. Happens both on local as well on remote connection.
Scanning has become slower and not as aggressive, when adding new content, and I think it has to do with the connection issue above.
Sorting is somewhat broken. Having it sorted on “Highest audience rating” then clicking on a film and then back again to the sorting overview it sometimes shows all movies in alphabetical order.
Resume timings are not being updated properly. Especially cross devises.
If anyone could confirm my findings above that would be greatly appreciated.
Let me know if you want me to provide logs.
Cheers

I have a Plex Media Server on a VM running windows. I want to move the DB from Windows to the Synology DSM 7 PMS. I found what should be the location “/Volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/”. I enabled SSH and putty to the Synology and navigate to /volume1/ and do not see the Plex directory? Just a number of @ some names and then my normal Public and docker locations I can see from in the file manager. Can we copy the DBs to the DSM 7 PMS?
If you wish to “import” , it’s now known as “migrate” (this is a new concept for DSM 7)
Plex/
Library/
Application Support/
Plex Media Server/
plex:usersPlex in “Full Control” of the shared folder and all sub-folders and files. When these conditions are satisfied, a fresh installation of Plex for DSM 7 will:
Verify all permissions are set as needed.
a. It will provide detailed instructions in the return message if any permission adjustments are needed. Follow them without deviation.
b. When all permissions are satisfied, the installation scripting in DSM 7 will “migrate” from DSM 6 → DSM 7
Migration involves:
a. Internal metadata processing to ensure no subtitle agent issues with absolute path symbolic links exist (older agents did this)
b. Changes all the permissions & ownership to the new username “PlexMediaServer”
c. Several other internal steps.
I suggest you read this first post AND migration process post which follows:
Could someone make a new version with for the 1.22.0.4111-cbf01057a update because there were errors in the last version of the BETA plex tv scanner which caused that the play history got messed up and that multiple episodes shared the same history and that some play history was removed
Unless I am miss-reading this, and that is possible. But I am trying to take a back up of the DB on the Windows machine PSM and then copy them to the correct location on the DSM 7 PSM (fresh install) no DSM 6 PSM was ever installed prior. I was just looking for the path to /Volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/ that it appears to be from DSM 6 but do not see the path in DSM 7 PSM
There is no “Plex” shared folder anymore. DSM 7 changed that.
I do not know what “PSM” is but assume you mean PMS (Plex Media Server).
The only supported mechanism (at this time in the development) is to
I will be adding a means to import and export backups.
I will do what I can to get another DSM 7 package set built for everyone.
Yes sorry typo or PMS vs PSM. I will wait for the release candidate then for ease of use. Thank you. Any time frame on the RC of PMS app? I also see the PMS on the NAS is saying a newer version is out. Do we install this manually or will PMS or the installed apps upgrade it? Where will the repository be for the releases if manual?
I have no information from Synology about their release schedule.
I did complete the request to engineering which:
a. Marks DSM 7 packaging (my work here) as “Completed” and tags as vers. 1.0
b. Adds DSM 7 as a choice to the plex.tv/downloads page.
When Synology releases DSM 7 officially, they will hopefully have the final documentation for me which will allow me to add “backup & restore” functionality to the package GUI ( what we need )
PMS 1.22.0.4111-cbf01057a is a separate effort.
I looked in the build system.
When 1.22.0.4111 is released to beta, I will be happy to generate packages.
Where is it advised to place the customer SSL files (or the Custom Certificate location)?
You can place the files anywhere you want (shared folder is a good place).
Of prime importance for DSM 7 is that you give user PlexMediaServer (System Internal User – not a Local User) permission to read the share.
I also suffer from this on the web version.
I often get the rotating circle, and then nothing else happens unless I do an F5 refresh.
Then it shows everything and works fine.
I am glad it’s not just me!
It only happens on the Web version. My LG TV and Firesticks all work fine.
Update 1.22.0.4136 has been released in beta
You said you had to wait until the new BETA scanner was released in the beta channel before generating a pacakge for DSM 7, so can you generate one now? ![]()
I may have an even better one for you…
You should see it on the downloads page as soon as they sign off on it.
(I’m trying to make that happen now)
EDIT: They had a problem and are working on the pages now.
ty Chuck!!
