Plex Media Server - Synology DSM 7 Preview - Issues ( Archive )

Install the package fresh.

Do not add the log files location.

Great to see the progress on DSM7, will the old 32 bit Intel Synology be supported?
Yhea i am still using a old 214 (evansport) Play, which will be replaced soon. But in the meantime i’ll wait for upgrading to 7.0

adminuser@NAS:~$ uname -a
Linux NAS3.2.101 #41222 SMP PREEMPT Fri Dec 4 18:57:55 CST 2020 i686 GNU/Linux synology_evansport_214play```

@jellehuisman

Only if Synology Supports it.

Go to the preview thread (links at top)

package files are there.

I can confirm as I saw the same error and stopped the old Plex service using the sudo command mentioned by @liquidk. All working well now… thanks as always, @ChuckPa - really appreciate all the effort!

It’s gone :slight_smile: gone gone.

Thanks for the build @ChuckPa! It’s working great!

Glad you are all good and this is taking off as expected.

Many uncounted hours of work into this. It became a “labor of love” and a “Oh no you will NOT beat me”

Thanks,
Its the DS214play ( INTEL Atom CE5335) with is a old 32bit only CPU and yes by my surprise its still supported for DSM 7.0.
i’ve treid the package provided in the other thread but cant use the 64bit architecture. i get the following message.

“This package is not supported on the platform of DiskStation or is incompatible with the current DSM version”

ack. You’re right… Unfortunately. it’s discontinued.

If you look at the NAS compatibility guide, it has been discontinued.

It doesn’t have the performance anymore to run PMS.

It only has 200-300 passmarks. The minimum was 700 (closer to 900 now).

I notice that when selecting the subtitles that are preloaded/gatheredinto plex, it won’t work.

When I use the search function and pick one from open subtitles it works.

I’m really not sure what I can do to give more info :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. Any way to refresh all subtitle files?

If something pops up in my mind, I’ll share it.

@Darkrogue

That’s a PMS thing… Not a DSM 7 issue.

please take that out to a new thread. It’s outside the scope of what I can do here.’

Getting Plex running on DSM 7 === The goal here.

New PMS build = separate investigation now that it works.

Haven’t had this issue before the upgrade. But I’ll follow your advice and do so.

Thanks

I already had that feeling, thanks for the explanation. More reason to upgrade (plus finally HW transcoding support) and to keep this NAS on 6.x until then.

@jellehuisman

It’s a good NAS – as a NAS.

It’s just not “Appliance Strength” enough to run Plex.

Same holds true of my DS1815+

Hello, (I have DS918+ and only one volume - (volume1) with DSM 7.0-41222)

I update my NAS to the new DSM 7 and I follow your process to install Plex media erver but it’s not work ? I saw the same message “ERROR: PlexMediaServer has no access to the existing Plex share.” but I added the right permission to the system user PlexMediaServer.
Please could you help me ? many thx

You did all the important steps but forgot the final step.

  1. Reinstall the Plex Media Server package.

This means:

  1. Uninstall (keep all data)
  2. Start installation again fresh in package center.

DSM 7 is a two-step upgrade. The re-install will complete the second step.

Tnx, but I still can’t install it. Do u have any ideas?

BUG REPORT - Hardware Transcoding - DS1019+

Just upgraded Plex to the Beta for DSM 7 and I noticed the hardware encoding is not working as previously with DSM 6. Or even when I had DSM 7 installed with the latest version of Plex using the workaround to get it to launch via SSH

sudo /var/packages/Plex\ Media\ Server/scripts/start-stop-status start

This new Beta version does load up and work, just transcoding instantly maxes CPU. I would switch back and use my work around but now it tells me the spk is in an invalid format.

Anyone else notice this issue or seeing something similar ?

@SkySpirit

That looks like the DSM 6 package error. You need the package name which has _DSM7.spk in it.

You need to download them from here:
