PlexTV Server can no longer see HDHomerun tuner

These instructions worked perfectly on my Linux install. The list of shows to record even carried over. The refresh of the guide data took almost an hour, so have patience while it completes. EPG data now extends 11 days.

On a Linux install, use the following command to confirm all Plex processes have stopped.

ps | grep -i plex

You can then use the kill command and the Process ID (PID) to kill off an straggling Plex services.

I was having similar issues since EPG took effect. I always update my Plex Media Server to the lastest version (on 1.16.3.1402 now) and have never uninstalled or reverted. The fix that worked for me is the following (borrow from from user Djurrep on another thread):
Restart the Plex Media Server. Go into your ‘settings’ --> ‘Live TV and DVR’ and then delete your DVR.

Now right next to Libraries, click the
 symbol.

  • Optimize Database ( I actually didn’t need to do this, but he has this step)
  • Clean Bundles
  • Empty Trash

Restart the Plex Media Server.
Add your DVR back now and see if it works.

I knew it would work right away when adding my DVR back PMS found my HD Homerun connect (no need to enter the IP and force a connection)

Hopefully this works for other people!

Any update on this issue? I still can’t watch Live TV and setup doesn’t see DVR (HDHomeRun).

There are several fixes proposed further up the thread. Have you tried them yet?

I tried going back to previous version which allowed me to see DVR setup but I still couldn’t view Live TV (Apple TV 4K). To be honest I thought Plex was more like a real company that fixed problems via new versions. I thought it was beyond having end users have to figure their own solutions.

sorry to hear it didn’t work.

Thanks. Just a little frustrated.

It seems like we are paying them money for not real great support. This IS frustrating. I am scared to upgrade versions now as there has from what I can tell, ZERO response from Plex about this

And I am sorry, but there are NO solutions being presented here, only workarounds.

and you can play your HDHomerun directly from your PC/Mac with the HDHomerun software?

As far as I know, the only way to roll back the Plex Server on Synology NAS is to remove the package and re-add the package. This assumes you have the older version still laying around somewhere.

This didn’t affect my library nor the database.

With the older version now running, delete the DVR config.
Re-create the DVR (it should see the Tuner, in my case a HDHomeRun), follow the process for adding IceTV Guide and then let it complete updating the TV Guide.

Once done, I then upgraded the Plex Server to the latest version package.

Ona QNAP, you can just install the older version over the new version. I imagine you can do that as well on the Synology.

OK, that’s new (to me). Everyone else just deleted the DVR, upgraded to latest and then added-back the DVR.

If there is an issue discovering the DVR or loading the lineup / channels, please lets get some logs from the server with debug logging enabled beforehand

Best to restart the server and then try to delete / setup the DVR. Leave a few seconds gap between deletion and re creating as there is async work that needs to complete on deletion

I have come across an issue where discovery may take up to 30 seconds - if there is an old DVR entry in the database - we appear to wait for all discoveries to complete / timeout before responding to Plex Web with the discovery results

For debug logging - see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

To capture logs - attach zip with screenshot https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

There have been logs uploaded before. I just upgraded to the current version. and the issue instantly came back. I click on live tv & dvr, and it eventually says unable to load DVR. There is something going on here, and it is forcing us all to go to an older version
Here are the logs from this:Plex Media Server Logs_2019-07-24_10-06-34.zip (3.0 MB)

Huge issue!!! However we can escalate it, please do so

Additionally, I am unable to view livetv even with the older 1291 version now
I just get a blank screen
Here are the logs from that.

the issue is that the DVR’s WERE there and working just fine, and now they are not found. this is A PLEX ISSUE
I am watching livetv over media center right now just fine. Now the backdated version is doing the same thing. Nobody on my plex server can watch TV right now
We need a response asap on what can be done for this. I can’t delete the DVR’s and start again, because they are not listed now
 Please advise.

Yep. I am watching tv through media center right now just fine.

Still no ability to watch livetv
I’ve moved back to build 1291, and am trying to get the guide data. But even deleting the DVR’s and re-adding them is not resolving this issue. I was able to do this by restarting plex, and quickly going to the dvr section to delete them
Also by the way, this deletes all of the scheduled recordings. which really sucks as I have 20+.

All I get is a black screen and a spinning orange wheel. I can see in the hdhomerun tuner web ui, that plex is streaming from it too. Yet I have nothing on the screen. Is there a support line I should call? Here are some new logs:

I’m also getting this on Windows Server 2016 with a HDHomeRun and two unofficial USB tuners.

“Unable to load DVRs” is the message on the Manage -> Live TV & DVR page

Actually @JCHH you raise a good point.

I might have downgraded the Plex Server on Synology, removed the old DVR configuration, then upgraded to latest Plex Server before re-creating the DVR.

In the case of IceTV Guide configuration, I’ve followed IceTV recommendations, and have a Synology Task Manager task configured to pull the latest Guide Data xml from IceTV using my user API key (that IceTV provides you when you sign up (currently 3 month trial for only the xml data.). This script scheduled by the task, pulls down the file, unpacks it and moves it to the plex user home directory on the Synology NAS once a day. I just point to this file when configuring the XMLTV data source when you configure the DVR within Plex Server.

Hope that provides additional clarification.

Why don’t you just put the URL from IceTV directly into Plex, and avoid the extra steps?

From there you just copy the link and put it into the XMLTV field in Plex when setting up a DVR
