PS5 App will not connect to Local Servers

What an absolute joke that this isn’t fixed yet

4 months after console release and Plex STILL doesn’t work on PS5

Yea, but we have Plex Arcade! What no one is asking for always takes priority to what we need.

Just to clarify, it should work fine if secure connections are working correctly on your local network. Start by making sure that your server is signed in with your Plex account, everything on the server side is automatic and there shouldn’t be anything else you need to do.

Normally the main issue with secure connection on the local network is caused by DNS rebind protection on your router, see the “Why isn’t it working” section here: How to Use Secure Server Connections | Plex Support

If you’re struggling after doing this please provide some server logs and I’ll check if everything is looking okay on that side.

Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs (please make sure you have Debug logging enabled).

Why are we forced to use secure connections in the first place? Everything just works fantastically with it disabled. What’s the point of having the option if the option is no longer working

We aren’t it’s a restriction on Sony’s side.

Excellent, that did the trick for me! Legend

Thank you, works)

Hi there! Have changed dns on ps5 and computer (server) to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 - issue fixed.

I am still having this issues. Here’s everything I’ve tried:

  • Made sure that I could access my server by going to app.plex.tv , it connects fine as long as I’m on my local network (I don’t have the ports open on my router for remote access)
  • Tried DNS Servers 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 and 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1
  • Tried turning on only connecting via secure connections (it was on prefer already)
  • Accessing local server UI by https:// address which works fine.
  • Checked to make sure I had the green checkmark by my server indicating that it used a secure connection when I was on the web app.
  • Tried to find any information about DNS rebinding for my ubiquiti edgerouter… This does not appear to be an issue on my router
  • Multiple times restarting the client and at least once restarting the server
  • Checked to make sure I was on latest playstation patch level which I was

I’m not running my own DNS or anything too fancy like that.

Is there anything else I can try?

POSSIBLE SOLUTION!

THANK YOU!!! I’m using pfSense as my router/firewall and I disabled DNS Rebinding Checks. If anyone else has pfSense go to System/Advanced/ Admin Access and select Disable DNS Rebinding Checks and save. You may need to sign out of your Plex account on the Playstation but this worked!!!

You don’t need to disable it completely, see this support article for the correct method:

Under the “PFSENSE DNS RESOLVER” section.

Awesome! This works and I didn’t need to disable it. Thank you!

I have followed the instructions in this post, however, my PS5 cannot connect with plex on my Synology. I recently updated to DSM 7.0.

Logs have been attached to this post, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

E aí galera.
Estava com o mesmo problema - PS5 sem visualização do servidor local.
Ajustei para “somente conexões seguras”, e deu tudo certo.
Obrigado.
Erick

My FreeNAS Plex server is “fully accessible outside the network” it shows that it’s secure with the green lock. No issues in browser with https://app.plex.tv/desktop/. It is set to Preferred secure connections (have tried required as well with no change), and yet is available on every single device in the house EXCEPT the PS5.

Followed as much of the secure connections page suggestions as possible. My router firmware is locked down by my ISP, Rogers. Can’t mess with any DNS settings.

I’ve been a paying customer for many years, it’s a shame a functioning app appears to be a low priority.

Considering 10m PS5s sold now I’m sure I’m not the only one.

So strange… It has worked for me for months and it just stopped out of no where. Restarted everything, didn’t help at all.

So after reading the whole conversation, i’m still stuck with this issue, i tried the secure connections as well and all that stuff.

Is this going to be fixed at some point?

Why has this App not had an update to fix this issue, I’m still having issues with this and this looks to have caused a problem since last year. Very poor.

I’m also having those issue.

Plex server is running on a synology nas in my local network, flat structure, all in one subnet.
Plex server is secure (green lock) in the web interface and on my ios client.

Although I have the red exclamation mark for remote access, it works from my ios client. When I choose “try again” in the settings, the red exclamation mark disappears and it says I have full remote access.

In the PS5 app the server appears as unavailable.
I added plex.direct do the dns rebind exception list on my router (fritz.box) and rebooted it.
I set my PS5 DNS to 8.8.4.4. (google)

i rebooted the PS5 and the NAS several times.

Still no change.

When I start the PS5 app, I see several stuff going on on the server console. User seems to get authenticated and then some requests are made. In between I always see this

CERT: incomplete TLS handshake: tlsv1 alert unknown ca

When I hit the “try again” button on the server connection in the PS5 app, I see those lines appear immediately again.

At some point I also had this message in yellow

"TLS connection came in with unrecognized plex.direct SNI name"

But I can’t reproduce it. It was followed by a domainname ending in plex.direct and the first part seemed to be the local IP address + some random characters (UUID?).

Any things that I might have missed here? For the moment it seems like I wil abandon plex and use the DLNA media player from my TV instead. A pity that the PS5 doesn’t have its own any more, but I falsely thought plex support should be sufficient …

It’s not windows. I run my plex media server in Linux snd same problem exists. Works fine on ps4.
