Maybe when it generates thumbnails, previews and discovers intro/outro.
When the server is idle, I have no issue… But it’s really annoying.
It does not work, we have all tried - but good luck all the same
No, the issue happens at any time - my server was not doing any of those things when it kept disappearing.
I think Plex needs to prioritise bug fixes before new features, new apps, and anything else. I pay for Plex Pass to get adequate support, not out of the goodness of my heart. The least Plex support can do is release the old version as an automatic update for Nvidia Shield to fix everyone’s issues. Then not release any more updates until they have figured out the cause and fixed the bug.
Are both your devices on the same network and in the same IP subnet? i.e. does your Shield IP address have the same first three numbers as your Mac, e.g. do both of them fit this pattern 192.168.0.X?
If there are no issues above, then check my instructions again, I have updated them with more examples and clarifications.
I suggest you opt out of the beta releases too.
Updated instructions with more examples and notes.
Thank you @badelie for the detailed steps, I just downgraded from 1.41.2.9200 and all seems to be working now.
You are a life saver
I have installed that version and at the moment it is working for me without a problem
I don’t have disconnections at the moment
Folks I had a problem using ADB on my Mac and connecting to my shield tv. It just would not find my shield.
Lo and behold I found an app on the google store via my shield tv that let me do it. The app is called ADB TV… let me connect wireless in seconds and installed the APK
Server is back up and running!!!
Two things to point out after all of this:
-
Plex support are absolute trash. Plex pass means nothing as a consumer.
-
Thank you to everyone in here for working to help others out, myself included.
We believe we have identified the issue (I was wrong about it being related to transcoding) and have fixed it in this build. The fix has also been backported to 1.41.3.
I wish I’d come to the forum instead of trying to troubleshoot this myself for the last few days, I’ve been going crazy.
Thanks though - what is the recommended way to use this fix?
I just downloaded from the link above and copied it onto a USB drive and installed the APK right on the shield. Worked for me and have been stable since.
I’m going to ask a stupid question, what did you use to load it on the shield from a USB drive?
I downloaded it on my PC and transferred it to the internal drive over SMB share and then installed it using the X-Explore app. Everything seems fine now, no drops so far this morning. The beta hasn’t yet appeared in google play store for me.
I used the file explorer app
Just upgrade with the beta from the Play Store and all seems fine now. Thanks !
thanks I’ll give it a try
I gave it a shot, for some reason I could not get explore to work, I tried another app. It asked me if I wanted to run the app when I said yes it did some churning then said not loaded. I did give permission to unload unknown apps. I’ll have to try again with some other app I guess.
Enable beta testing if you haven’t already and you can install from play store now I think.
Do you have to sign up for Beta Testing like the HotFix’s or is that somewhere in the settings? I’ve looked but can’t seem to find it. Still having dropouts although less frequently lately.
Edit: found it at this link https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/join?hl=en-US
I installed @chris_decker08 Version and all is working fine. I don’t want to be a beta tester, because so or so i am a alpha tester in final versions on play google, because Plex Team not check enough before giving it to google. To many times we get a crash trough updates.
No thanks here go to Plex Team.
Other people like @Badelie have to help us out of this misery with help from ADB, which the Plex team apparently is not or was unable to do. No thanks to the Plex team here either.
