How do I remove an incorrect tv show poster

For some reason, all my TV show posters come up as the album cover art for “The Cure’s Greatest Hits” album.
I can go in and change them manually, but it’s a pain.
Movies and music are fine.
Is there any way to remove this weird default poster setting?

Please attach a Plex Media Scanner log:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417

Temporarily activate display of ‘hidden’ and ‘system’ files in Windows explorer.

Then go on the hunt for graphics files in the root of your tv show folder, named most likely like folder.jpg or smallthumb.jpg or similar.
Seek and destroy.
Edit the existing tv shows and select the right poster image.

Additionally, change the order of metadata agents under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB drag the line ‘Local Media Assets’ downwards so it sits underneath ‘TheTVDB’.
That way a rogue poster file cannot override the metadata coming from TheTVDB anymore.

This change however only has an immediate effect on newly added shows.

I obviously left out some key and really important piece of information - like if there’s no reference to the scan made to the TV show folder there’s really no need posting that log. I guess you would have to scan the TV Show folder and then post the log. Attaching a log file is slicker than a copy and paste and reduces wear and tear on the mouse wheel. It’s that ‘dog eared envelope’ icon thingy up there.

Stick with Otto - can’t go wrong there…

I was able to find the album cover “.jpg” by temporarily unchecking “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)”, and checking “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” in the folders options as suggested.
Working fine now.
Thanx so much for your help!!!

I can’t tell you how long this has been a problem for me…

For anyone else out there having this problem with MUSIC rather than TV shows, follow these steps. You need to not just “show hidden files”, but you also need to go into Control Panel and tell Windows to let you see SYSTEM files too. There are tiny little JPEG files associated with a lot of your music (including digital purchases you’ve made online through Amazon) that were completely messing up my ability to get album artwork to match within Plex. Seeing (and then deleting) all those tiny little jpegs from my library, and then building a new library from the ground up with plex doing artwork matching, and this problem was solved.

Thanks so much for the solution. I’ve had this problem LITERALLY for years now.

I only have this issue with one movie. The .jpg file does not exist in my root movie directory. Yes, I showed hidden files and system files. Any other ideas?

It could be embedded into the video file itself.

Do this to avoid trouble caused by embedded metadata:
Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Second possibility:
The movie could be incorrectly matched to a different movie with a similar title.
That’s why it is important to have the release year of the movie in parentheses after the official movie title. Movie Title (year).mp4

Look up your movie https://www.imdb.com/
determine the correct title and release year
(screenings at film festivals don’t count, only the official cinema launch)

Perform the Plex Dance to clear mismatches from the Plex database.
