Same issue here. No music audio after sleep, resolved by force stop or restart.
Experiencing the same issues after latest shield update.
Same issue here
Same issue. It started at least 2 updates ago. I know its at last that far because twice Iāve been hoping the updates solves the issue but obviously no improvement.
I will add I have noticed one of two behaviors.
- The music track will look like itās playing, IE the time index progresses but nothing is actually audible. In this case the Plex app or the Shield must be re-started.
- The song looks like it starts but never gets past 4 seconds and then re-starts. IE a 4 second loop but no audio. In this case more often than not, you can stop and re-start the sing and it starts playing.
All of my music is either flac or mp3.
OK, have you ever been able to get a 5.1 FLAC file to play on the Shield, withOUT transcoding? I can transcode to ACC, but really want to play 5.1FLAC native, direct play.
No one has been able to help with this so any insight is appreciated.
Are you talking about FLAC inside of a video file? That wonāt work. FLAC as an audio music file will direct play, but not in a video file.
Edit - That wasnāt totally correct. Let me clarify. FLAC can direct play if you are using it locally so it gets downmixed to stereo. You cannot pass through 5.1 FLAC so if you have a surround system and passthrough enabled, it will get transcoded to a supported 5.1 codec.
This is off topic for the thread, so we may get busted for this, but Iāll seek forgiveness over permission!
My 5.1 flac files (which are audio files taken from DVDs of concerts and are only 16 bits because Iām not a snob/donāt know what Iām doing/care about disk space-take your pick) play as Unknown (FLAC-5.1) on both my Shield and an iPad. It doesnāt say that itās transcoding, but that may be me missing a clue somewhere. Sorry I canāt be more help, and Iād love to know if you find an answer somehow.
I am have 5.1 flac files that have been ripped from 5.1 DSD files. They are very high quality music / audio files. 4600 kb/s, 44.1kHz, 24bit 6 channel flac. I am using the nVidea Shield, HDMI connected to a Marantz audio processor, hard wired gigabit network to an unRAID server. There is no hardware reason this should not work.
The point of having the files to begin with is allll about the original quality. The 2 channel versions play just fine without any transcoding. When you play the 5.1 flac it trandscodes to AAC (sort of defeats the purpose of high res music). If you force direct play, it doesnāt play, no audio.
Iāll add in these files play fine via DLNA to my blueray player completely outside plex. The interface is horrid, slow, and a general PITA. I would really like to see Plex work, but Iāve posted on this 2 or 3 times over the past year or two and no one ever has any advice. If Plex could handle DSD/DSF files that would also work, but donāt think the shield can do those.
Thanks.
OK I should have read the edit a little more closely. Why will it play 2 channel flac, but not 5.1 flac? there should be some lossless 5.1 music format available.
What file container are you using? Your description makes it seem like Plex is treating these files as video, which means youāve used a video container and not a music one. Music and video are handled differently.
The file is a .flac file. No container around that.
The 2 channel and 6 channel are created on the same software from the same original DSD file. 2 channel .flac plays fine. 6 channel is being forced to transcode. it is a simple music file.
Back to the original topic hereāaudio on the Shield.
I read on another thread to try a reset on the Shield. That was a waste.
I thought it was an issue with waking, but the same problem takes place when an album finishes playing. (Iām running Shield 8.0.1 and Plex 1.18.0.allofāem.)
Itās continuing with version 7.2.3 on the Shield.
I continue to see that it doesnāt even require the Shield to sleep; itās when an album ends. The songs play, as indicated by the graphics, but no sound. I still get menu sounds and videos to play correctly.
Iāve not experienced that, though sometimes my Shield goes to sleep immediately following the end of an album or playlist. Then after waking it I will, of course, have no music audio.
Same problem here. After wakeup no sound with music. Problems solved when force stopping plex.
Just keeping this topic open. I have exactly the same problem, it is extremely annoying.
Same here. Skip
I also have the exact same issue. Extremely frustrating considering how good Plex is.
I am forced to use other media players to handle music as Plex continually fails.
Just here to tell Iām having the exact same issue. Nvidia Shield PRO and latest app / firmware.
Same issue hereā¦
I just got my Shield TV yesterday and noticed that the Plex app is entirely different from the Plex app on my LG smart TV. Somehow I was expecting to find the same looking appā¦
I understand itās not very supportive to complain too much, but I really have to add my own 2c.
Earlier I had problems with Plex not playing subtitles correctly (see this discussion and alternatively this topic where someone else seems to be fed up).
Also, playing from my NAS doesnāt work all too well with subtitles turned ON: the server isnāt powerful enough to transcode. Ok, a NAS isnāt suitable as media server, but I donāt understand why subtitles arenāt overlayed just like the menu or volume control isā¦
Now I have the Shield TV, which at least fixes playing UHD movies with subtitles, but now music doesnāt play!
I keep hopping from one problem to the next. Thereās always something with Plex that doesnāt work right. Every update seems to change the UI, but bugs are unresolved for months on end (sometimes years).
To make matters worse: thereās absolutely no feedback from the Plex guys in these forums. We cannot file bugs in a bugtracker, we donāt know the state of reported issues. We donāt even know if people are actually working on any of these things. All we do know is that the UI keeps changingā¦
Itās sad, because I really like Plex and besides these types of pesky little bugs it works quite well. I even keep recommending it to people. But please - pretty please with sugar on top - fix those bugs and leave the damn UI alone!
