Plex wont play on my androids

Plex media server updates on my android devices (TV and Phone) but doesn’t play any media as of a couple days ago. Worked fine before that. Says there’s a connection problem. Plex works fine on my LG TV and PS4. Have the current media server installed. Uninstalled the app on both TV and Phone and no changes.

What’s your Plex Server version and what platform are you running it on?

Debug logging was already enabled so I don’t know how to clear that cache to get a fresh log of the issue. I’ve attached the zip file of the download logs.

Your Plex server isn’t running on Windows, it’s running on a Wester Digital.
PMS version is 1.18.6.2350 and it’s over a year old.
If your device is a My Cloud Home, this is a known problem and there’s no solution yet

The media is stored on a WD home Nas drive and this setup has worked fine for over a year. This is a known issue with WD Home/plex/android?
As mentioned, my LGTV and PS4 access the content.
Suggestion on a different media drive is welcome If this the issue.

Apparently the problem is Android + PMS 1.18.

WD claims that Plex has to update their software in wd’s store, but at the same time WD doesn’t let their users to update it manually.
If you search for “plex 1.18 android” in this forum you’ll see a bunch of topics like yours in the last week. Plex is aware of the problem

About recommendation, I would go with Synology, but Plex has a document with NAS models and their capabilities. ChuckPa is the person who can provide this information while it’s not publicly available.

To be clear. We are aware that PMS cannot be updated on the WD My Cloud devices. I’m still investigating the connection to the Android app.

@kgolby Can you reproduce and get the Android Log from your device? I see in your earlier log the request to play a video, but then nothing else. PMS just doesn’t continue to provide the stream.

To add. I’m able to access a WD My Cloud Home with PMS 1.18.6 running from by Android device running 8.18.0 beta.

building on the comment from from @CostaHT (Plex wont play on my androids - #8 by CostaHT)

There is an obsqure crash we are trying to understand that occurs in versions of PMS after 1.18.6 during the first install on the WD MCH devices. We became aware of this a few months ago from WD’s QA team. (They also QA the builds as they are released only on their app store and cannot be sideloaded without a rooted device)

Now that we have new builds based on an improved toolchain, we should. be able to debug this in more detail (debugging PMS running is not simple) I have reached out to our build/server team to raise the priority of this issue.

Any update on this? I have this issue since more than a month now. Neither of the Android related devices are able to play movies as it gets From console: “Got a request to stop a transcode session without a session GUID (or with an invalid one).”

Hi everyone and I have the same problem. Just bought my WD home cloud duo just for PLEX, works fine at home on my 4 Samsung tvs but my samsungs tablet and phone dosnt work more than a can see pictures but music, tv series and films not able to play.

Have WD or PLEX come up with an solutions for this bug???

Please let me know if you here anything or can I get i touch with PLEX about this?

Has there been a resolution for this yet? This issue comment was referred to me on an issue I am trying to resolve. From what I have been able to see here, there are a few people looking for an answer as well but I am not seeing the answer here. Not sure if it was posted elsewhere.

@ChuckPa - I see that there is mention above where you might be able to assist in CostaHTs comment from May 26.

My techie person here where I lived that was able to assist me in the past now only supports commercial customers so I am SOL in trying to get his assistance.
