Reseting Plex setup on Synology DSM7

  1. Do not install 1.21.0-3744 from Synology Package Center. It was a beta release for basic DSM7 compatibility and is quite outdated.

  2. Uninstall whatever version of Plex you have installed on your NAS.

  3. Delete the PlexMediaServer shared folder.
If they exists, you can delete the user & group Plex. They were used for DSM6 and are no longer required.

  4. Download the current version of Plex Media Server, 1.27.0.5897, from plex.tv (link) and perform a manual installation (Package Center → Manual Install).

  5. As noted during the install process, you will need to give user Plex Media Server, an internal system user, at least read-only access to your media files. See Synology FAQ #30.

  6. After installation finishes you will need to claim the server.

From a system on the same network as the NAS, use a private/incognito browser window pointed at the NAS: http://syno_ip_address:32400/web.

Do not click open in Package Manager, use app.plex.tv, a domain name, Synology QuickConnect, or similar methods to access Plex. Those will not work. Once the server is claimed, you can then use those methods to access Plex Media Server.
