Samsung SmartTV - Plex blank screen

I’m having the blank screen issue but only when pulling up and trying to play videos using the search feature. If I scroll through the listing, which seems like forever, and select the movie it will play fine.

My connection is set to Preferred and I’ve uninstalled / rebooted / installed a couple times now with same results.

And with thousands of movies this is pretty janky guys. When can we expect fixes for this?

How should I send you logs and do you want them from server and client.

If you can advise process or exporting and sending I’ll provide whatever is needed. I cannot get rid of blank tiles no matter what it do and my issue is reproducible at my end?

Has Plex be able to replicate this issue yet? I get the blank tiles everyday.

So no support at all then? Can I send logs? It’s 100% reproducible and I cannot get rid of it?

2016 Samsung.
I was fine until 6 days ago but now I get almost all blank tiles and infinite buffering when attempting to play anything. I uninstalled the app, factory reset the TV but same results.

My server connection was already set to preferred.

thanks mate, this fixed my problem. i was getting the blank screen, changed required to preferred and it fixed it immediately - cheers !

Same issue here, tried deleting and reinstalling app, setting on PMS already set to “Preferred” so not sure what else to try.

Every time I use the Plex app on my Samsung TV for the first time after switching on I get the server unavailable message briefly and then blank grey screen.
Holding the back button on remote to force quit and then launching Plex app again shows no issues and it works fine from here until the next day when it happens again.

Using 3.92.3

@sLumpy 3.92.3 does not fix the issue with a completely blank screen if the server enforces secure connections.

Any update?

Is this the same as you are describing, sometimes it goes but it’s being stubborn at the moment. Usually At this point I delete/reinstall the app, but the issue returns normally in a day or two.

Hi I have tried the latest release, removed and completely reinstalled on TV and initially on first run it works but then black tiles re-appear after a couple of uses. Exactly the same issue and symptoms as before with previous update.

Please can I get some assistance to troubleshoot this issue and work with support to resolve.

If you could advise how you would like me to test and send logs as it’s same as before 100% reproducible.

Would appreciate support?

Personally I dont get the black tiles, I get the same issue as the OP, when launching Plex on my TV I briefly get this screen which I often used to get anyway.

After 1-2secs it tries to connect and the result is this screen.

It stays like this until I quit the app and restart it, from then on it seems to work without issue.

Uninstalled, reinstalled, PMS set to preferred and using 3.92.3 but no improvement.

Shame as it used to work perfectly until the updated UI was pushed onto my tv a few months ago (3.84.2 I think) and its been problematic ever since.

Try changing the Prefer Insecure Connections and Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections settings in the Samsung app to get around the blank screen issue.

@trouty5005287861 That’s a different issue. Did you choose reinstall from the app store, or did you first choose delete and then install from scratch afterwards? Reinstall doesn’t fix the problem.

@sLumpy I have fully deleted and reinstalled a few times. I have go a couple of different screens on which show. As well as above i have seen the below 2. I clicked remember and allow on the first. Also sometimes it will come back fine and work for a bit, with the second image it does work when i choose a item to play just not display.

How are we supposed to change settings if we don’t see any UI elements? :wink:
Even if that would work, every time you log out the settings are reset, so there is no “client settings solution” for this.

I changed both these settings from “Same Network” to “Always” but it had no effect, the issue is still occurring daily when I first run the Plex app.

3.92.3 on 2016 Samsung TV

Same for me. Disabled Secure Connections, Only Allowed Secure Connections. No combination will get it back to normal.

EDIT: I think we need more effort put in than this “secure connections thing” because that is not it. It has been over two weeks now and I can’t use the service I pay for.

Any more suggestions for the 2016+ Samsung TVs? Nothing suggested in this thread works. it would be fantastic if we could go back to the old working version of the app, or if we could get a timeframe on a fix for the new one.

I’m debating on waiting for the fix or purchasing a streaming device to get Plex working on the Samsung TV again.

There are a few other treads describing the same problems.
