Recently, TVBD implemented a feature called “Flexible Seasons” which is really useful for shows like Money Heist or Chilling Adventures of Sabrina where the most commonly used order is not the original order.
Currently, the API does not support this feature, but I would really like to see this feature implemented into Plex as soon as possible.[mod-edit: implemented with PMS 1.40.4]
Edit 2020-04-08: Episode Groups
TMDB has implemented a similar method which they call “Episode Groups”. Those are already available via API (Details) so it should be possible to implement this.
Adding to your list: Re:Zero’s Director’s Cut was also forced into this new feature and as such they forbade adding its double episodes under Specials.
Adding to this, it would be nice to be able to choose from TMDB’s “Episode Groups” as well, which are pretty much their version of TVDB’s Flexible Seasons. Will be really useful for shows like Pokémon, which have completely different orders and divisions of episodes and series in Japan and in the U.S.
yes this is a must feature for PLEX. I’m still struggling to get the correct Seasons for Money heist and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Any idea how to do it without entering all details manually via some env file or meta data file?
I suggest It’s good to have a option to Enable or Disable the USE META DATA ON LOCAL FOLDER in Edit box on all TV series and movies. This way we can force to use local meta data on each media without bother about global meta data setting.
For this specific case I suggest just naming the files:
Re.Zero.kara.Hajimeru.Isekai.Seikatsu.S01E01.The.End.of.the.Beginning.and.the.Beginning.of.the.End
Re.Zero.kara.Hajimeru.Isekai.Seikatsu.S01E02E03.Reunion.with.the.Witch.-.Starting.Life.from.Zero.in.Another.World
Since the episodes are basically just 2 combined episodes*, but I know that for most others this won’t work.
Didn’t work so well for me particularly since I also have the original lenght S01 episodes and Plex didn’t play very well along with that. Even tried playing around with hardlinks and .plexignore shenanigans but no such luck, the best I could get was every other episode showing up (E01 since it was originally a double, and then only the even-numbered ones).
In the end, I just kept it all under S00 and manually entered the episode details. Far from ideal but manageable for just under 10 episodes (since a few of them were automatically scraped before TheTVDB mods took them off and locked S00).
I hope this will be implemented soon, because as I keep adding older content to my server, I run into more and more shows where not having this feature is a major problem.
In the meantime, if anyone has a temporary solution, please don’t hold back.
well not really. when you go in the series to american dad and then in the bottom left corner try to edit the series. you then go all the way down to advanced and then down to episode order you can edit the order to absloute, aired or dvd. this works fine. the problem with money heist is that the feature already exist but they called it netflix order so plex doesn’t recognize it.
Agreed, found another recent show with this issue.
Trackers, originally aired in South Africa as a 5-part miniseries.
When re-released later on Cinemax, the first episode was split into two, and I believe some cut footage re-added, so now it’s 6 episodes on the alternate order on tvdb, so it’d be great to reflect that in Plex without needing to manually edit all of the metadata.
