The process is simple.

For each of your shares which contain media for Plex to use,
– File Station
– Properties
– Permission tab
– Change “Local User” to “System Internal User”
– Now check the apprpriate box for “PlexMediaServer”
– Save
– Now, before exiting the permission change page click “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”
– OK when done -
Open PMS,
– Add Library section
– Under “Folders”
– find your shared folder under /volume1, (or /volume2, volume3, etc)
– ADD

It applies to DSM 6 and DSM 7.
(DSM 6 uses username ‘Plex’; DSM 7 uses username ‘PlexMediaServer’)
