Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

I Router D-Link AV5592A Wind Infostrada, my setting

Seems correct or am I wrong? but it always gets stuck looking for the server

It looks like you just typed in the wrong address.

The screenshot that says “impossible to connect” is pointing at 92.168.1.113 instead of 192.168.1.113.

Your earlier screenshots, such as the ones from the DS220+, use 192.168.1.113.

Thanks for the answer, yes that was my typing mistake, I corrected 192 but the problem of the server not finding it is always there

the server is not available

@ChuckPa @FordGuy61
guys does anyone have an idea? I have tried them all, explain to me what to do to make you understand the problem better, I certainly can’t explain it well, tell me what you need
I have all my library but it doesn’t connect to the server in any way, I may have errors where? plex? nas synology? routers? where!!! please
I can do a teamviewer if needed so someone checks my network for errors
plex media server is updated to the latest version yesterday from the official site

Can anyone point me to the instructions to configure the newly installed PlexMediaServer for DMS 7 on a Synology D220+.

@HKrunner

The process is simple.

  1. For each of your shares which contain media for Plex to use,
    – File Station
    – Properties
    – Permission tab
    – Change “Local User” to “System Internal User”
    – Now check the apprpriate box for “PlexMediaServer”
    – Save
    – Now, before exiting the permission change page click “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”
    – OK when done

  2. Open PMS,
    – Add Library section
    – Under “Folders”
    – find your shared folder under /volume1, (or /volume2, volume3, etc)
    – ADD

The Complete instructions (from initial install to completed library sections) is here.
It applies to DSM 6 and DSM 7.

(DSM 6 uses username ‘Plex’; DSM 7 uses username ‘PlexMediaServer’)

all other procedures apply equally.

For future reference, you can find most common answers here:

The above Setup instructions can be found at the bottom of the first page of the FAQ

I finally solved it, the problem was in the NAS, I didn’t have a static IP but DHCP, once I set a static IP Plex connected right away!

@ChuckPa
I read the guide on how to insert subtitles automatically, by registering on (opensubtitle.org) but I see that when there are parts that are not in my language they don’t actually appear, I have to activate them manually or download a file, the problem is that in this way they remain intact even when the audio is in my language, how can I fix it?

I had a similar issue, initial Install was fast with no error prompt. Also no ERASE option just STOP and UNINSTALL, should I uninstall and redo the install. Thanks

@nwstewart59

In Package Center → Uninstall

As Uninstall starts → Uninstall & Erase (RED radio button)

Thanks, also there was no option for Custom premission for Plex Folder;

There is a PlexMedisServer that I gave Full Access to, it had the Custom option

So its safe to hit Uninstall here;

@nwstewart59

How long have you had that NAS / volume? DSM 5 timeframe ?

Asking because older instances of shared folders (DSM 5.x) didn’t add the “Full Control” attribute.

If your shared folder / volume is very old, the solution, albeit a pain, is simple:

  1. Stop all of PMS and uninstall (ERASE) the dsm 7 package

  2. Rename the “Plex” share to “Plex-OLD”

  3. Create a new shared folder named (exactly) “Plex”

  4. As you create it, Give System Internal User “PlexMediaServre” FULL CONTROL (all admin, read, and write) permissions

  5. Now, using FileStation, move the entire contents from Plex-OLD to Plex

  6. When complete
    – Right-click “Plex” → Properties → Permissions
    – Confirm PlexMediaServer has “Full Control” indicated
    – Check the box “Apply to this folder, subfolders and files” (important)
    – SAVE/OK – wait for it to complete (will take time)

  7. Now Install DSM 7 Plex again.
    – It will automatically start the migration process
    – It will sit at “Installing” (don’t interrupt it)
    – In another tab/session , Look for the “Migration.log” file in the “Plex” shared folder (about a 2 minute delay until it appears)

  8. When you see “Cleaning /volume1/Plex: Completed” . you’re all done

IF

If you have a full Plex Media Server still in the “Plex” shared folder

YES

Don’t forget to do the Plex share task before reinstalling.

I see the Erase in Red ok.

I was running latest version of DSM 6 but do not see Custom in the Folder Permission. Will try what you stated above to change name to Plex-Old etc. just tried cant change name

Worse case…

  1. Create Plex-new and assign the permissions as I directed
  2. Move all of Plex → Plex-new
  3. Assign the permissions for “This folder sub-folders and files” in Plex-new
  4. Delete “Plex”
  5. Rename “Plex-new” → “Plex”

Thanks for the pointers. I hit a few issues and installed twice but it is now working again. I seem to still have an old Plex server files (not my media) in the Plex share but it doesnt seem to be doing any harm and I couldnt see any way to remove without a folder delete which I wasnt game to try.
