What happened to GridView?

Hi all,

Just came back from vacation and fired up plex on my web browser. My tracks had always displayed in grid view. Today, my track list opened in table view. the icon to switch back to grid view is not available when displaying tracks. The icon (9 squares) is available when displaying albums or artists.

Is this a recent change? If so, please put it back. If it is a setting, could you tell me where to find it.

I really don’t like this table display.

Thanks

Missing here too, I pretty much exclusively used tracks grid view for browsing and adding things to playlists. I’m a visual person and find it muuuuuuch more useful to browse the cover art, vs a useless list of text. I hope they put it back but I doubt they will since there are so little of us using plex for music.

It’s decisions like this that make me wonder whether Plex is actually worth it anymore. Removing the plugin support didn’t bother me, ceasing development on PMP didn’t bother me (although I appreciate they’ve revived it somewhat with ‘Plex HTPC’, minus the linux support). This change I just don’t understand though. Grid view is still there for artists and albums, was it really worth removing it for tracks?

There are a few other threads about it so far (seems like some mass removal of grid view for whatever reason?)

Apparently the change was intentional:

Edit: removed duplicate link, added more links

Wow. What the heck are they thinking?

Thanks for the update. Btw, if you didn’t update your server (I use Synology), you can still use the grid view if you open with the server ip, rather than going thru the web app. (app.plex.tv).

…and of course now this prevents me from wanting any more updates until they resolve this.

I have the opposite problem - I always use table view, and after I updated, everything defaulted to grid view instead. I’m able to toggle if I’m sorting by albums, artists, or tracks, but not when sorting by folder, which is how I always sort. I have like 2TB of music and having to scroll for 14 years to find what I want to play sucks lol

Yes, the table view is so unsexy. If you just want to keep the best songs of an album this was a very pretty way to brose your music. This was one of the main reseason I switched to Plex. Why deleting this option? Does it save resources? It’s implemented anyway for the albums. So please bring it back!

Why is plex taking away our choice to grid view?? Is this a trend - if so how about a refund?

Ok, I will also “evaluate” whether or not I choose to remain a plex subscriber.

Removing the grid view is ridiculous. Now we have to go through 100’s of lines to find what we want. Well back to the software search I guess.

I’d like a refund as well.

Yes, I’m having issues with the grid view removal. But also wanted to add that, they remoed the option in the third submenu after all/movies-folder/by folder. meaning that now if I select the option folders Im stuck with detail view, if I select the movies option, I get the grid view option, but cant sort my content by folder, so now the movies content gets all mixed up. The only way to get the grid view and the folder organization is using their collection option, which I dont like, for starters, because Plex creates collections I dont like or that are determined by an AI that I dont get its logic sam reimi’s spider man movies is a collection, ok, I get that, but then there’s an “the amazing spider-man” collection with two movies, and then another Spider man collection for the MCU movies, but there’s no Spiderman collection that includes them all. So as long as the collection feature stays so arbitrary and illogical I wont use it. I just want to get the grid view back under folder organization, and the “by folder” sorting option in the thir submenu when selected movies option in the second submenu. That was really organized, right now is a total mess. Luckily for me, I haven’t open my wallet for Plex Pass already, that would have me 500% more annoyed and angry than I already am. Another bad mark for Plex developers (and tehy dont have “just a few”,)

Just an observation; but someone has never heard the old adage “If it isn’t broke don’t fix it” and if they have heard the adage and did it anyway then they’re either STUPID or JUST DON’T CARE
I have 191 folders containing 4572 Movies/T.V. Shows (Still Adding) list view is a ■■■■■ to get what I need or wish to watch, this ranks right up there with Hitler invading Russia, (the Dumbest thing he could’ve done)

Seeing all my movies in grid view was wonderful! Why has Plex removed this option? Was it causing harm? I’m so very disappointed as it is one of the things I loved about using Plex. This is the first time I’ve ever had cause to complain about what is otherwise an outstanding product.

Well, I dont get what you mean by accesing trough Plex web, I suppose you refer going through (https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/), but everytime I access Plex Server doubleclicking the system tray icon in Windows it logs me to the Plex server install in my local drive through a private IP (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/). Guess that’s the way every plex server administrator do it, being directly accesing the server or though a local network computer. Accesing that way, the detail view is still an issue, you don’t get the option to switch between grid, list and detail view. So what this “Plex web and Windows 10 App lose view controls in Folders view” USER says after saying “Thanks for the report!” is a total lie. It was NOT ONLY implemented a limed list-style view in the web app, but in the web ACCESS TO ANY PLEX SERVER, which is the only way to access a server application service. They really screwed it up this time.

Yes, that is what I was referring to. If you are on your local system and you didn’t upgrade, or you reverted to an older version, you’ll see the gridview.

The issue only occurs to me if I go thru app.plex.tv. But this has side effects on my network because I have two networks in my house and computers on the other network have to use app.plex.tv to get to music.

I’m dealing with it, but i’m not happy about it. I will not upgrade until they fix this.

Quite displeased with this change as well. Grid view for tracks was my preferred method for browsing my music collection (when sorted either by date added, plays, rating, etc). I even used this method over the playlist since playlists for whatever reason only allowed for a limited table view.

This said- I am thinking of potential work arounds. But I have not messed a lot with custom filters. Would it be possible to set album view, grid view, but set a filter so only songs with 5 ratings (or something similar) within those albums play? I am able to sort it to only show albums with a 5 rating track, but then it plays the entire album instead of only the 5 rating track.

Any thoughts, or ideally a fix for this terrible decision, would be appreciated.

Please return the option to have a grid view for all browsing pages so that WE can have a choice. No better way to lose folks nowadays than to remove their ability to make choices… (and fire the dolt that decided to remove it…)
