Synology - DSM 7.0 Release - Plex Installation (Not Operational) Issues

No problem… Sorry… I sent you a package so you can see how to do it.
Can I send it to you by email?

@Den_Golovachev

I figured it out.

While there, I found a bug in the DSM 7 package generation

:man_facepalming:

LOL

I’ll have a semi-official one shortly.

Reminder

@manny4566

My apologies. Which version were we looking for ? I’m a bit turned around here.

ALL:

I chatted with engineering and CS.

The ability to hide the Plex icon from any Synology user account (non-administrator) has been added.

Also cleared up a DSM 7 package bug which has existed since the beginning.

The configuration has been changed and sent off to QA for review.
Once approved. it will be in the next PMS release (likely next month’s)

I am willing to publish “Task Scheduler” instructions to add it in the interim.

That was your recommendation

This is where I understand things to be.

My recomended version for this is:

I can and will provide an older version if the problem still exists.

Please make certain you are loading the BUNDLED plex/web app (from http://LAN.IP.of.Syno:32400/web

If you use https://app.plex.tv then you will always get their latest version

Hi,

this version works. It can be searched again in the GUI.
Means the problem occurred with one of the later versions.

I updated Synology to 7.2 update 2 from 6.x
Can’t regain access to server media after multiple uninstalls / reinstalls. Also tried this older version posed here in forum:
PlexMediaServer-1.32.1.6999-91e1e2e2c-x86_64_DSM7.spk 3

Continue to get this even though RW access granted to PlexMediaServer for folder that generates this error
image

This can happen when the first-run is accidentally rushed after the ugprade
(It has a LOT to do underneath what you see in package center)

The easy way to reclaim / get control again is now built into the DSM 7 package and it’s menus

Please don’t play with the PlexMediaServer shared folder.

  1. The username isn’t “Plex” anymore. It’s “PlexMediaServer” on DSM 7.
    – If not careful, you’ll break it.

  2. You will need to grant permission for PlexMediaServer to read your media (This is a Synology-forced change)

Go back to Control Panel - Shared Folder - photo .

Reapply the permissions there (which is at the top of the shared folder)

DSM is giving you problems because permissions are inherited by default.

When you set them manually, it is temporary.

If you have Synology Photo Station installed, it will always overwrite the permissions
(DSM Photo Station owns the default photo shared folder)
– Your option is to:

  1. Create a temporary holding shared folder (Photo-temp)
  2. Move your /photo/* → /Photo-temp
  3. After empty, delete the /photo shared folder
  4. Rename /Photo-temp → /Photo
  5. Apply permissions
  6. Update Plex

Hi,

Do the information help you ?

I finally bit the bullet and decided I would try to update my Plex Server to the latest version. I uninstalled my old version (not sure which # it was). then installed 1.32.6.7371. On the install screen it asked if I want a normal install or install using Plex Claim Token. I chose the 2nd option to use the Plex Claim Token. I copied my token from the plex.tv website into the install dialog but that failed. Said it couldn’t connect to plex.tv.

So I installed the server using the normal install. I can launch the plex server on my Synology NAS but it says that my server is unclaimed

If I click the Claim Server button nothing happens. I get a spinning icon and then it just says I need to claim it. How do I fix this?

@marek_krzeminski_gmail_com

If the DSM 7 install fails because it cannot connect to plex.tv

then the problem is the Synology network configuration
( Name server and default gateway addresses )

Can you show me the error you get (the popup at the end)

See this video for the problem: plex problems - YouTube

  1. Please STOP PlexMediaServer
  2. Open FileStation
  3. Navigate PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  4. Right-click “Logs” → “Compress to Logs.zip”
  5. Download that ZIP file.
  6. Attach here please.

I deleted everything in \synas\PlexMediaServer\AppData\Plex Media Server\Logs then went through the “installation” process trying to claim my plex server. After all that, and the failure as shown in the video, I then looked in the Logs directory. There are no files there.

Logs.zip (39.7 KB)
okay, I installed the plex server without trying to claim the server. Then I started plex, went through the process to set things up, and then tried to claim the server via settings. The logs that got generated after the failed attempt to claim are attached.

Your network settings are invalid .

I logged into my plex account and just left my computer running for 2 hrs. When I came back the server has been claimed and everything is running fine now. I didn’t touch a thing … but somehow it resolved itself!

Hey guys, this thread got crazy long. Can someone tell me if Hardware Transcoding was fixed for Syno 920+ yet, or should I still stick to the old Plex build 1.32.1.6999?
