How do I roll back the version of Plex?

Server Version#:1.16.4.1469
Player Version#:
I updated to the latest Plex yesterday on my PC server and the playback keeps jumping forwards. How can I re install the older version? Fortunatly I also have Plex server on my NAS. This has not been updated so I can play from there without the jumping.

what exactly did you update?

  • the Plex Media server (on your Windows)
  • the Plex Media Player (old) or the Plex Player (new)

just trying to verify as I’m not sure I caught where the issue is (e.g. if your server is on your NAS or if you have another server on your NAS  )

I updated the Windows server and now there is a problem. The server on the NAS hasn’t been updated and is working fine. I normally use the PC as the main server but I have switched to the NAS until I can get a working system.

On Windows, Plex keeps (or used to keep) prior versions in an Updates directory.

Look in the Plex Server install directory for the Updates folder (c:\Program Files…).

Alternately, look in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Updates (ex: c:\users\username\AppData\Local). AppData is normally hidden. Enable viewing of hidden files in Windows Explorer to view the contents (In Windows Explorer, click View tab, then the checkbox for Hidden Items).

I have not run Plex on Windows in awhile, so cannot say for certain the Updates folder is still present.

Yep, they’re in there - in a Folder called Updates, oddly enough.

I have found the Updates folder. When I try to run the older one it fails saying that a newer version is installed. Do I have to uninstall the latest version? If so will I loose all my settings?

Rolling back on Windows works as follows:

  1. note down your current Plex Server software version
  2. Stop Plex Server using its tray icon.
  3. uninstall Plex Server with the regular ā€˜Apps’ control panel of Windows. Do not use 3rd party ā€˜uninstaller’ software like Revo etc. Do not use Registry cleaners/optimizers.
  4. go to your Plex data folder.
There is a subfolder in there, named Updates which will contain previous versions of the installer .exe
  5. execute the installer for the previous software version
  6. reboot Windows (just a safety measure, it may work without rebooting as well)

I did that and didn’t loose any settings. The playback has been as good as ever on the old version.
I hope that by the time I come back from holiday there will be an update that doesen’t have the problem.
Thanks for your assistance.

I have 2 plex servers that are doing this now also. I’ll try going back a version and see if that fixes the provlem Thanks

That is refreshing to hear.

I glanced in my Update folder and there’s a list of previous updates going back to 1948 with really odd names - cherry picking one of those isn’t something I’d particularly look forward to, but I feel so much better knowing they are there…

lol

LOL! Me too. I love it! Anytime I can go back to 1948!

Over 3 weeks now and no update to fix the problem.

Do you got the latest and greatest yet?

Or the one before it?

Only available with Plex Pass for now. Will have to wait until this version is released to the Public channel.

What about on Raspbian/Debian? Installed through .deb package (dpkg -i)

No idea how to rollback on Raspbian. Maybe somebody else on the thread can assist.

Since this thread is about PMS on Windows, you may not get your question answered here. Try asking here: https://forums.plex.tv/c/plex-media-server/computers and tagging your post with server-linux-arm.

I have a similar problem …

I installed the old version 1.16.2.1297 and it worked.

Has anybody tried the latest Beta to check if the problem has been fixed?
